I make art to heal. I make art to express thoughts and emotions through non verbal means. I have always had a strong desire for the arts. Not only does Art give one energy, but it brings with it a sense of hope and well being.
As a child I was not interested in doing the things that many children often wanted to do. Instead I would beseech my mom to allow me to stay up just 5 minutes longer so I could finish coloring or drawing. This passion accompanied me throughout high school where I graduated with a scholarship for the arts. I went on to University where I completed a dual major in Fine Arts and Psychology. I later developed and implemented an Art Therapy program for people with special needs. It was then that I knew more than ever that Art has healing properties and can do something for people that nothing else can. I have been creating art ever since and will never stop.
The medium I use is acrylic. I often like to combine various mediums to give my work more texture and depth. I know a painting is going well when once immersed into a painting absolutely nothing can come in between me and my brush. What I love about my work is how a painting can take on a life of its own; with its own meaning and identity. How I envision a work to turn out is not always the end result.
Often I become inspired by reading poetry, or looking at various art forms. Another joy my work brings me is what is does for other people. The idea of my work is not for the viewer to look at it and understand exactly what the meaning is, but instead how the viewer connects with the piece and what they take away from it.
What I love the most about what I do is being able to escape. By escape I mean escape the world, thoughts, and other random ideals that tend to be overwhelming at times. I love the ability to heal and to paint my own journey from start to finish. I have been painting my own personal battle right from the beginning and will continue to paint it right until the end.
With Art there is no right or wrong.
Art is my passion.
